Stunned witnesses In Pembroke, Ontario, say that the man who viciously attacked a dog on a downtown street early Wednesday was trying to eat the animal alive.

Police confirmed that a young man has been apprehended, as details about the bizarre case began emerging some 24 hours after rumours of the heinous incident shocked the community.

Police admitted the man, who was not identified, to the Pembroke Regional Hospital, under provisions of the Mental Health Act.

The dog, described as a female pit bull, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and remains in the care of animal control.

While police are saying little, eyewitnesses are recounting a terrifying scene in the early morning hours of Wednesday at the intersection of Pembroke Street West and Christie Street.

A woman living nearby said she and her husband were awakened by the mournful howls of an animal in distress.

Looking out the front window, the couple saw a man wearing only a pair of boxer shorts and lying on top of a dog. She said she raced outside and saw the man biting the dog’s back and head.

“It was something out of a horror movie,” said the woman, who asked not be identified. “He was literally eating her alive. It was terrible.”

In the car with a friend, 18-year-old Tanner Comeau, of Petawawa, Ont., said he observed the black form of the pit pull lying in the middle of the intersection. At first, he thought the dog had been struck by a car. Then he saw the figure of a man leaning over the dog’s body.

Comeau said he and his friend screamed at the attacker before calling 911.

The pit bull was gushing blood as a circle of bystanders gathered to yell at the man.

“He had the dog in a choke hold and was biting it,” Comeau said. “He was trying to eat it or something.”

Witnesses were reluctant to approach the assailant, who was behaving erratically.

Finally, the dog ran off and was taken indoors by residents.

The woman said she wrapped the dog up in a blanket, and said she thought the man may have been the owner because he kept calling the dog “Jessie.”

She noted the dog had bite marks all over its body.

“She was such a sweet animal,” she said, adding it appeared the dog may have recently given birth to puppies.

The man then ran down the Christie Street hill, towards the Pembroke Memorial Centre.

Comeau suspects the crowd may have scared him off, saving the dog from sustaining fatal wounds.

“If we hadn’t pulled over, it would definitely be dead by now,” he said. “It’s something I don’t want to see again.”

Const. Dillon Gerundin said police received a call for assistance around 12:30 a.m. When they arrived in the area, officers found a man wandering around with very little clothing on. They observed the suspect biting a dog, lying on the ground.

Gerundin said police “can’t rule out” drug use, but said the man was not under the influence of so-called bath salts, the drug notorious for eliciting paranoid and violent behaviour in its users.

The drug has been recently suspected in connection with several gruesome crimes in the U.S.

A KFC restaurant was driven into and two vehicles, including a police car, were repeatedly rammed when staff refused to serve a bargain bucket to an irate ‘drive-though’ customer because they were closed.

Hugh Brown, 50, flipped out and went on the rampage with his car when staff at KFC in Oakley Road, Corby refused to serve him.

Brown was jailed for seven years for a “psychotic and deranged” outburst which one of officers described as the worst he had witnessed in 19 years.

Northampton Crown Court heard Brown drove his car through the front window of KFC, threatened staff before driving off. When he realised he was being followed by an off-duty police officer, he rammed his car, and when police arrived on the scene, he repeatedly drove into it.

Brown snapped when staff refused to serve him 20 minutes after they had closed. And when asked why he had lost his temper, Brown said: “I only did it because they wouldn’t give me a bargain bucket.”

The KFC branch closed at 11pm on March 22 and four members of staff were cleaning up when Brown arrived at the drive-through at 11.20pm, asking to be served.

Adrian Harris, prosecuting, said: “With the lights off, it was obviously shut. The defendant got out of the car and walked up to the window. He was very angry. He wanted to eat and his anger was apparently because they were closed.”

Brown, of Llewellyn Walk, Corby shouted abuse at the staff, made threats and then got into his Peugeot 406.

Mr Harris said: “He appeared to drive off, but the defendant did not drive away. He drove straight at the large window at the front and drove through the window in the style of a ram-raid. The only things that stopped him driving fully inside were the tables, bolted to the floor.

“The defendant revved again and got out of his car. He grabbed a huge metal pole that was part ofthe window frame, climbed through the smashed window, walked up to the counter and threatened a member of staff, who said he wanted to fight outside.

“The defendant damaged a TV monitor using the pole, then threw is across the counter towards the staff like a javelin. He said ‘I’ll be back in five minutes with a group’.”

He drove off but was spotted by off-duty PC John Cummins who thought a ram raid was in progress, called 999 and decided to follow him. However, Brown soon realised he was being followed.

Mr Harris said: “The defendant drove straight into PC Cummin’s car, then reversed away and drove into it again. PC Cummins had retreated to about 12 feet away to a nearby alleyway. Fortunately, there was a concrete bollard between him and the defendant because the defendant drove at him quickly with high revs and his tyres smoking. The defendant then smashed twice more into his car.”

Mr Harris said a marked police car, containing PCs Ruth Hay and Neil Ochalek, arrived and saw Brown in his car, He said: “PC Hay stopped about five metres away from him. he looked at them and laughed. The defendant drove at them and shunted them backwards.”

As PC Ochalek got out of the car, Brown rammed it again.

Mr Harris said: “PC Hay was terrified and thought at the time he was trying to kill her. She pressed her emergency button as the defendant was looking at her and laughing. He laughed throughout and to her, he looked ‘psychotic and deranged’.”

When the air bag in the police car deployed, PC Hay was trapped in the car while Brown twice more rammed his vehicle into the police car with her still inside.

After the fourth collision, she was able to open the door and ran off, but Brown again drove into the police car.

Brown then decamped and threatened to take on the officers but ran off and once other police arrived, he was found hiding on a garage roof.

It took pepper spray and more officers to finally subdue him, as he threatened: “I’ve got Hep C, I’ll spit on you.”

Mr Harris added: “PC Hay was petrified and truly in fear for her life. PC Cummins was left shaking and was still shaking when he wrote his statement. He believed the defendant was bent on destruction and in his 19 years as a policeman said he has seen nothing like it.”

Brown pleaded guilty to affray, damaging property, dangerous driving and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.

Judge Lynn Tayton QC jailed him for seven years and banned him from driving until September 2018.

She said: “Throughout this incident, you were described as laughing and in a strange state. You used a car as a weapon and intended to cause more harm that actually resulted, This matter is aggravated because it was an offence committed against a police officer in a car. You are very lucky nobody was very seriously injured.”

Maxine Krone, mitigating, said Brown was taking 13 types of medication at the time for an anxiety disorder. When faced with the option of fight or flight, he had decided to fight, she added.

An act of chivalry enraged a man caught in a sex act into an attack on the person who interrupted him.

It started with a man exposing himself and masturbating shortly after midnight Monday outside a Northside apartment building, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report.

The suspect became upset when another man tried to stop him to protect two women. The suspect struck that man with a belt and then broke 2 windows of the man’s car with his fists, police said.

Police this morning were still working to identify the suspect.

Jayson Everett, 27, Mooresville, and a woman accompanying him spotted the man while stopping to pick up the woman’s sister from apartments in the 2000 block of North Delaware Street, according to the IMPD report.

“Mr. Everett yelled at him from the car,” wrote IMPD Officer Jeffrey Wilkins in a report.

“As he exited his car, the subject took his belt off and came at him swinging. A physical fight ensued in which Mr. Everett was struck by the suspect in the face with his fist causing a small contusion below his right eye.”

Everett told police he was trying to look out for the safety and sensibilities of the women.

“He told the girls to get in the car,” the report states, “and as they attempted to leave the suspect jumped in front of the car and struck the front window with his fist causing it to break. They tried to leave by going northbound on Delaware and the subject ran up behind the car and struck it again, this time shattering the rear window.”

Everett was driving a rental car.

A fed up South Florida mom allegedly snapped when she tried to murder her 17-year-old son with a knife.

Later she justified the attack with her own twisted logic.

“I wanted to kill my son because I cannot take care of him, and I don’t want him to suffer,” 50-year-old Sheronda Hall Roselva allegedly told police following her arrest Sunday.

The bizarre case unfolded in the city of Lauderhill, outside of Fort Lauderdale, where a neighbor saw the teenager screaming in the street just before noon.

“Hey mister! Could you help? My momma is trying to kill me!” the boy said to neighbor John Burroughs.

After calling 911, Burroughs witnessed Roselva carrying a butcher knife and also demanded he phone police.

A police report said that the teen had been in his room sleeping when his mother walked in and thwacked him an estimated 30 times with a bat.

Then she allegedly walked out and returned with a knife, police said. The boy reportedly held her back from stabbing him, and he fled.

Cops said they found Roselva outside of her house with the weapons — and that’s when she allegedly confessed to trying to kill him.

The teen had a small cut and bruises on his back and head, and was taken to a hospital and later released.

Roselva was arrested on one count of aggravated child abuse and Broward Circuit Judge John Hurley set her bond at $50,000.

The woman is unemployed and that if she makes bond, she would be kept away from her son.

Police in Lawrence, Massachusetts, report that three men were arrested following a staged act involving a simulated machete attack at a public festival.

The staged attack, which was being filmed by the performers, featured a man in a coat similar to those worn by the gun-toting teenagers in the 1999 Columbine High School attack in Colorado simulating a machete attack on the other participants in the crows during the 89th annual Feast of the Three Saints.

“They had a guy with a machete in a Columbine-type coat,” Lawrence Police Chief John Romero said.

Participants in the stunt, which police said involved copious amounts of fake blood, told officers they were filming a scene for the Internet.

“They were disturbing the peace. Clearly people were in fear,” Romero said.

Josette Osorio, 19, who police said was the man wearing the trench coat, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

Mark Hatch, 48, who Romero said was the film’s director, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, as well as disturbing the peace.

Vincent Bencivenga, 29, of Lawrence was charged with disturbing the peace and making a false report.

A man from Utah is facing a felony charge after police say he attacked his roommate with a weapon made famous by comic book character, Wolverine.

19-year-old Kristofer Ryan Huff from Vernal was charged on Friday in the 8th District Court with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.

He is accused of using a knife and a replica of the claws associated with the Marvel Comics character Wolverine in his Aug. 8 attack on his 20-year-old roommate.

“(The alleged victim) sustained probably five to six wounds to his head, and then two to his arm, multiple defense wounds on his hands and then one real deep wound to his thigh,” said Vernal Police Sgt. Vance Norton.

The alleged victim initially told officers at the emergency room that he’d been in a fight with a group of strangers on the street, according to court records.

However he later identified Huff as his attacker after officers found blood at the home the two men share, court records state.

Norton said Huff’s mother was also stabbed in the left arm during the incident as she tried to pull him off his roommate.

Huff’s mother is dating his roommate, the sergeant said, noting that the two men have been “best friends since they were younger.”

“It was kind of a domestic-type incident that took place,” Norton said.

Huff was booked into the Uintah County Jail, but was released after posting $10,000 bail. He is due to make his first court appearance Sept. 10.
