A man described as having “vampire teeth” was arrested in La Jolla, California on Monday morning after police say that he attacked a homeless man and threatened to kill him.
Police were called to a shopping center on Villa La Jolla by someone who saw the victim standing outside a CVS Pharmacy, San Diego police Capt. Brian Ahearn said.
When they arrived they found the 55-year-old man wounded and bleeding with his left eye swollen shut, Ahearn said.
He told officers that he was sleeping behind the shopping center next to Interstate 5 adjacent to Nobel Drive when he was beaten in an attack he described as totally unprovoked, Ahearn said.
The attacker kicked him repeatedly in the face, head and ribs while saying that he wanted to kill him, Ahearn said.
Officers located the suspect a short time later and took him into custody on felony assault charges that may be upgraded to attempted murder.
His name has not yet been released. The captain said the suspect also appeared to be a transient.
