It sounds like a case of Fagin and the Artful Dodger, right out of Oliver Twist.
Portland police say that a man enlisted the help of a small old boy as he robbed an Oregon store on Saturday, a day after the pair may have robbed a foot cart.
Just before 6:30 p.m. police were called to the report of a robbery at “The Meadow” a specialty shop on that sells books, salts and chocolates.
The victim told officers that the man entered the shop with a child, who appeared to be about 10 years old.
“The man grabbed the victim, covering her mouth and pinning her arms,” Sgt. Pete Simpson said. “The suspect told the victim he would hurt her if she yelled.”
Meanwhile, the child went behind the counter and stole money from the register.
Both suspects escaped on foot. The victim was not seriously injured.
The man was described as African-American, 20 to 30 years old, about 6 feet tall, with a medium build.
He was wearing all black clothes.
The child was African-American about 4 feet, 8 inches tall, wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans.
Police believe the same pair robbed the Pepper Box food cart a day earlier.
The cart operator was grabbed from behind by the adult while the child grabbed cash.
