A 42-year-old man in Colorado is facing felony charges after cutting through a restaurant patio wall to avoid paying his $33 bar tab.
Robert Engles used a black folding knife to cut a four-foot slit in a plastic wall at the upscale Centro Latin Kitchen in Bolder, according to a police report.
However, his escape attempt was cut short by a metal fence that surrounds the patio.
Two restaurant employees cornered Engles and restrained him until police arrived at the scene.
Engles was detained and taken to Bolder County Jail, where he became ‘increasingly hostile and combative’ with jail personnel, according to the police report.
He was booked for felony menacing, defrauding an inkeeper and criminal mischief.
Engles remains in custody on a $5,000 bond.
Engles had consumed several drinks before attempting exit through the restaurant’s main entrance without paying his bill, according to several witnesses at Centro Latin Kitchen.
After a restaurant employee confronted Mr Engles, he walked to the outdoor patio and cut through the plastic wall.
Restaurant employees estimate damages to the wall to be $600.
