A man from Massachusetts allegedly pointed a laser at players during a girl’s high school hockey game.
The 42-year-old Winthrop father has been charged with misdemeanor disturbing the peace for allegedly shining a bright green light into the eyes of a teenage goalie.
“We wanted to make sure we had the appropriate charges. We didn’t want to over charge him, we didn’t want to under charge,” said Winthrop Police Chief Terrence Delehanty,”so any time we are in doubt, we consult the district attorney’s office.”
“It definitely caused a distraction. Speaking with the goalie, she didn’t know what it was. She thought maybe someone was taking her picture,” said Rob Pearl, Medway Schools Athletic Director.
The MIAA later ruled Winthop’s win stands, which was a major disappointment to Medway’s entire team.
