Video footage shows the terrifying moment a man burst into a UK pub and attacked drinkers with a chainsaw.
Dean Dinnen, 24, stormed into The Endyke pub, in Hull, with the petrol-powered saw, after he was earlier asked to leave because he would not put out his cigarette.
Dinnen, who was drunk and on drugs, chased customers around the pub and sliced one man’s arm.
Some of the customers armed themselves with chairs and tables for protection and forced him outside.
Eventually, they managed to disarm Dinnen outside by throwing furniture and beer barrels at him.
Adrian Pryor, 32, was struck with the chainsaw as he tried to help his friend get out of the way.
The blade cut through the skin and muscle of his arm and he had to undergo surgery at Castle Hill Hospital.
In a victim personal statement read to Hull Crown Court, plumber Mr Pryor, said: “I had to undergo an operation under anaesthetic to repair my tendons and received 21 stitches. I had to have a splint in my arm, which was extremely uncomfortable and painful, and was off work for six weeks.I feel this will be with me for the rest of my life.”
Dinnen has been jailed for three years after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, possessing an offensive weapon, damaging property and affray.
The Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, Judge Michael Mettyear, told Dinnen: “This was a really horrendous incident. It must have been so, so frightening for people.
The sound alone of one of these machines in that sort of space would terrify people and it did terrify people. Imagine the sort of injuries that could have been caused. It could have been much, much worse than it was for your unfortunate victim.”
The drama unfolded on August 5 last year. Dinnen lit a cigarette inside the bar and was escorted off the premises after he refused to put it out.
He claimed he was attacked outside and went back to his home in Thorgill Grove, west Hull. He returned brandishing the chainsaw 50 minutes later.
Shocking CCTV footage from inside the pub shows Dinnen chasing drinkers desperately trying to escape.
Dinnen used the chainsaw to smash the glass in the pub door to get out as men armed with chairs and tables forced him out of the building.
He was overpowered and attacked by customers outside for “disrespecting their pub” as the police raced to the scene.
