Cabbie charged after fare dispute

On February 10, 2012, in Robbery, Vehicles, by djeyli

Police said a Windsor, Ont. taxi driver and his female passenger got into a dispute over the route he was taking. The cabbie stopped the car at an intersection and ordered the 41-year-old woman out, but she refused.

When they reached her destination — an apartment building — she wouldn’t give the driver her debit card, police said.

A chase ensued and the woman tried to barricade herself in the lobby of the building, which is where the tussle escalated. The woman’s screams alerted a neighbour, who called the cops around midnight on Wednesday.

The woman, who was not identified in the report, alleged that the cabbie punched her and stole her purse, though she was able to retrieve it.

No one was seriously injured.

Abdillahi Miigane, 50, is charged with robbery.
