Police in Florida searching for a man who was wanted for violating probation on a battery charge was arrested after his two-year-old son told them he was hiding in the attic.

Megan Merschen, the mother of his child, told officers that Valdet Gjeloshi, 29, wasn’t at the house in Tampa Bay.

But when she suggested several other places he could be, the boy spontaneously announced his father was in the attic, according to the police report.

Merschen, 25, then admitted that Gjeloshi was in the home.

Gjeloshi was arrested on charges of violation of probation and resisting an officer without violence.

Merschen now faces an obstruction charge.

Mr Gjeloshi’s father, Ismet, 62, said his son was not hiding when the police arrived.

He added that the violation resulted from a miscommunication about a court date.
