A woman in Italy who had been claiming disability benefits for blindness was arrested after she was filmed working in a hair salon and riding a bicycle.
Tax police said the 62-year-old Vigo woman, whose name was not released, had been claiming benefits “for at least three years” after having herself declared “completely sight-impaired” by a medical panel, ANSA reported Friday.
“Not only was she styling hair but we also filmed her cycling, crossing the street with a keen eye on the lights and even reading the paper,” a tax police representative said.
The woman was charged with defrauding the state. Officials said they are suing to force her to repay the money she received in benefits.
