Ladaris Smith, 35, from Forrest City, Arkansas, got really drunk. While outside his house, a tree made him get angry.
Smith got so irate that he started fighting with the tree, at which point neighbors phoned the cops.
When the cops arrived, they discovered that Smith had a warrant for failure to appear and was taken into custody. During a search of Smith, officers also found 1.4 grams of marijuana.
After being taken to the station, Smith then apparently made the decision to fight officers. According to the report, officers were attempting to process Smith into custody when he refused to answer any questions.
As officers attempted to place him into a holding cell, he resisted and two officers wrestled him to the ground and attempted to subdue him until backup arrived.
When the additional officers arrived, Smith continued to fight and was sprayed with pepper spray, which apparently had no effect, according to the report.
During the altercation, Smith was able to grab a police baton and allegedly began swinging the baton, knocking a hole into a police department wall.
He also allegedly picked up the FCPD’s Intoximeter machine and dropped it on the floor in the booking room.
Minor damage was reported to the wall, and officials are in the process of checking to see whether the Intoximeter, which costs $10,000, has any internal damage.
Smith is charged with failure to appear, possession of marijuana, less than four ounces; resisting arrest and refusal to submit to arrest, aggravated assault, refusal to submit to fingerprinting and or photograph and second-degree criminal mischief.
